5 Spooky Plant-Based Halloween Drinks to Make at Home

Halloween falls on Saturday 31 October this year, which means one thing: parties, pumpkin carving and very long, very cold evenings. And nothing goes better with a scary film than something warm in your hands.

The problem? Most seasonal drinks from coffee chains and supermarket shelves are loaded with syrups, gums and ingredients you can't pronounce. The good news: you can make every one of these five spooky drinks at home, dairy-free, starting with a base of fresh plant milk you made yourself.

Grab your cauldron (or a saucepan). Let's brew.

Why fresh plant milk makes better Halloween drinks

Store-bought cartons often contain added gums, emulsifiers, oils and preservatives to keep them shelf-stable. Homemade milk is just your chosen ingredient and water, so the flavour of your spices and chocolate comes through cleanly.

You also get to pick the perfect base for each drink:

  • Oat milk is naturally creamy and slightly sweet, ideal for lattes and hot chocolate.
  • Cashew milk is rich and neutral, so it lets bold flavours like matcha or turmeric shine.
  • Almond or hazelnut milk adds a nutty warmth that loves cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Black sesame gives a naturally dark, toasty drink, no food colouring required.

Bonus: the leftover pulp works brilliantly in pumpkin muffins or energy balls for your Halloween spread.

5 spooky drinks to brew this Halloween

Each recipe makes one large mug (about 250 ml). Multiply as needed for a party.

1. Pumpkin Patch Spiced Oat Latte

The autumn classic, minus the syrup. Real pumpkin gives it body and a beautiful orange glow.

  • 250 ml fresh oat milk
  • 2 tbsp pumpkin purée
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • ½ tsp pumpkin spice (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove)
  • 1 shot espresso or 60 ml strong coffee (optional)

Warm the oat milk, purée, maple syrup and spice in a pan, whisking until smooth and steaming. Froth if you like, pour over the espresso and finish with a dusting of cinnamon.

2. Witch's Brew Black Sesame Latte

Inky, mysterious and naturally dark, with a toasty, nutty flavour that surprises everyone.

  • 250 ml fresh black sesame milk (or oat milk blended with 1 tbsp black sesame paste)
  • 1 tbsp honey or agave
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Heat everything gently and whisk until frothy. Serve in a dark mug and top with a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds for a "bubbling cauldron" look.

3. Ghostly White Hot Chocolate

Pale as a ghost and twice as comforting. Perfect for kids.

  • 250 ml fresh cashew or oat milk
  • 40 g dairy-free white chocolate, chopped
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegan marshmallows

Warm the milk, take it off the heat and stir in the chocolate until melted. Add vanilla, pour into a mug and float two marshmallows on top. Draw little ghost faces on them with melted dark chocolate.

4. Swamp Monster Matcha

Bright green, frothy and full of gentle energy for a long night of trick-or-treating.

  • 250 ml fresh cashew or almond milk
  • 1 tsp matcha powder
  • 2 tbsp hot (not boiling) water
  • 1–2 tsp maple syrup

Whisk the matcha with the hot water until no lumps remain. Warm and froth the milk with the maple syrup, then pour it over the matcha. For a party, serve iced in clear glasses with gummy worms hanging over the rim.

5. Blood Moon Golden Milk

A warming, spiced turmeric milk with a dramatic red-orange swirl. The cosy nightcap after the party.

  • 250 ml fresh almond or hazelnut milk
  • ½ tsp ground turmeric
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp raspberry or cherry purée (for the "blood" swirl)

Simmer the milk with the spices and maple syrup for 3–4 minutes. Pour into a glass mug, then drizzle the berry purée down the inside so it swirls into the gold.

Tips for a hauntingly good Halloween drinks table

  • Make your milk the day before. Store it in glass bottles in the fridge and give it a shake before using. Fresh plant milk is best within 3–4 days.
  • Set up a "potion bar". Keep a pot of warm milk on low heat and let guests add their own spices, purées and toppings.
  • Label your potions. Little tags like "Witch's Brew" or "Ghost Juice" turn simple drinks into the star of the party.
  • Rim your mugs. Dip the rims in maple syrup, then crushed biscuits, cocoa or orange sugar.
  • Keep it kid-friendly. Skip the espresso in the latte and go heavy on the marshmallows. The ghost hot chocolate and swamp matcha (with a small amount of matcha) are crowd-pleasers.
  • Check for allergies. With guests coming, have one nut-free option ready. Oat milk works in every recipe here.

Every recipe above starts with fresh plant milk, and that's exactly what Milky Plant Plus was made for. Add your ingredient and water, press a button, and in a few minutes you have fresh milk from oats, cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, seeds and more.

  • No straining, no mess. The machine separates the pulp for you and stores it in a front compartment, ready for baking.
  • Nothing added. No gums, emulsifiers, oils or preservatives, just your ingredient and water.
  • Less waste. No cartons to throw away after the party.
  • Switch milks per drink. Oat for the latte, black sesame for the witch's brew, cashew for the matcha, all in the same evening.

It's the easiest way to turn one pumpkin-scented evening into a whole season of cosy homemade drinks.

Trick, treat, or a cosy mug?

This Halloween, skip the sugary seasonal syrups and brew something you can feel good about. Whether it's a pumpkin latte before the costume party or a golden milk after the last trick-or-treater has gone home, fresh homemade plant milk makes every sip better.
